BAYC Co-Founder Gordon Goner Steps Down, What’s Next For The Project?
Earlier this weekend, co-founder of Yuga Labs and massive blue-chip project Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) announced his leave from the project as a core team member due to health complications. Here’s what you need to know about the situation and what’s next for BAYC & Yuga Labs!
Gordon Goner Exits Project
In a tweet on January 28th, Wylie Aronow, also known as Gordon Goner on Twitter, announced to his 144 thousand followers that he is making the difficult decision of stepping down from being a Yuga Labs core team member due to experiencing a number of symptoms over the past few months which he discovered to be a result of congestive heart failure.
Aronow further explains that while his symptoms are still rather mild at the moment, his condition is unfortunately progressing “pretty fast,” meaning that he would now need to make serious changes in his life and focus on his health.
Some heavy news: a few days ago I was told by my doctor I have congestive heart failure. Symptoms started last year out of the blue and I put off seeking help (like an idiot) so I could keep working. But after testing, my doctor called and asked me to radically change my life.🧵

What This Means For Yuga Labs
With his leave, Wylie Aronow, who had been a core team member and took part in most of the planning and direction of BAYC & other Yuga Labs projects so far, will now no longer be in the front lines of the project but instead remain as a board member and strategic advisor.
He also expresses his excitement to see former Activision Blizzard President Daniel Alegre joining to become Yuga Labs’ CEO later this March.
“My confidence in Yuga’s future and @cryptogarga’s leadership are unwavering. Daniel Alegre (@dalegre) soon joining only makes me more bullish.” Aronow wrote. “While I won’t be on the frontlines for a while, I’m incredibly excited for what the Yuga family has coming this year.“
“Not a lot of people outside the space know the extent of what we as a community have done here. I’m proud of everything we’ve achieved and believe Yuga’s impact on web3 is just beginning.“
This upcoming year, Yuga Labs has a number of massive projects and initiatives planned, which don’t seem to have been hindered due to Gordon Goner’s leave.
The BAYC community is still currently engrossed in the Dookey Dash game released earlier this January which promises players with high scores to become eligible for rarer mints in Yuga Labs’ future initiative.
Later on this March, Yuga Labs’ will also be launching their long-awaited second trip to the Otherside Metaverse after a successful first trip back in Summer of 2022.
