MLS Signs Bore Ape NFT As Their First Virtual Athlete

MLS Signs Bored Ape NFT As Their First ‘Virtual Athlete’!

The Bored Ape Athlete

An official Soccer league in the United States, MLS, has made a big announcement in which they reveal that they are debuting their first ever ‘virtual athlete’. This athlete in question was revealed to be a Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT, specifically BAYC #6045 named ‘Striker’.

This signing of a Bored Ape to the MLS was said to have been conducted by American digital and influencer marketing company, Get Engaged, who had reportedly bought the BAYC NFT for 100 ETH (around $177,000).

MLS explains that the reason they bought the Bored Ape and is debuting it as a virtual athlete is to take advantage of NFTs’ growing popularity in the world of sports these past few years.

They also stated that Striker the Bored Ape will be making his virtual debut at the MLS’ All-Star Game on the 10th of August where he will be playing the position of a striker on the team.

Bored Ape In Mainstream Media

This isn’t the first time a Bored Ape NFT has made an appearance as a ‘public figure’. Back in July, a BAYC musician known as ‘Ape Rave Club’ was the first NFT artist to headline in Tomorrowland, a major music festival.

Besides that, there have also been a number of Bored Ape NFTs that have made an appearance in movies, serial shows, and even music videos like the one made by Eminem and Snoop Dogg last in July.

Bored Ape Yacht Club has been steadily making itself known to the public as many people in the community have been utilizing its non-constraining IP rights. With this, many predict that there will be many more BAYC NFT public figures like athletes and artists in the future.
