Epic Games Assures They Won’t Ban NFTs In Response to Minecraft Ban

Epic Games Assures They Won’t Ban NFTs In Response to Minecraft Ban. “Developers should be free to decide how to build their games.” said Epic Games CEO and co-founder, Tim Sweeney.

No Plans To Ban NFTs

On Wednesday, the Microsoft-owned game, Minecraft, announced that they have decided to ban all NFTs and blockchain integration within their game, saying that the nature of NFTs “do not align with their values.”

This decision was highly controversial as many members of the NFT community disapproved with Minecraft’s decision, whereas crypto-skeptic gamers seemed to celebrate this news, urging other video game developers to follow suit.

Tim Sweeney, the CEO and co-founder of Epic Games, responsible for developing major video games like Fortnite and Rocket League, was suggested by a Twitter user to follow Minecraft’s footsteps in banning NFTs from their games.

However, in response, Sweeney replied saying that they have no plans of banning NFTs or blockchain any time soon. Although Epic Games isn’t necessarily pro-NFT, the CEO explained that “Developers should be free to decide how to build their games, and you are free to decide whether to play them. I believe stores and operating system makers shouldn’t interfere by forcing their views onto others. We definitely won’t.

Epic Games Relationship With NFTs

To this day, Epic Games still has not created any games or tools that involve the usage of cryptocurrencies, NFT or other blockchain technology. They do however, allow other developers to launch NFT-focused games on their marketplace so it seems that despite not being pro-NFTs, Epic Games has taken quite a ‘neutral’ stance on blockchain technology.
