Ethereum Name Service (ENS) Hits New Major Milestone In 2022!

In 2022, the Ethereum Name Service, or ENS, exploded massively in popularity within the NFT and crypto community, causing the service to celebrate its most successful year yet.

New Registrations

Throughout 2022, the Ethereum name Service announced that it had recorded over 2.2 million new registered domains, accounting for around 80% of all the total ENS domains that have ever been created.

According to data from Dune Analytics, ENS saw the most registrations ever in September 2022, where it saw a massive total of over 400,000 new ENS registrations.

As of January 2nd 2023, there is a total of around 2.82 million names registered, of which an estimated 600,000 are unique individuals.

ENS Integrations

The massive spike in ENS registrations this year may have come due to a number of partnerships with corporations like the American crypto exchange Coinbase.

Coinbase announced their integration of ENS back in late August, allowing users to change their Coinbase wallet usernames to an ENS subdomain. This ENS address was able to be used for users to send, receive, and trade coins.

Unsurprisingly, it was following this integration announcement in late August that Ethereum Name Service really saw a massive spike in the number of new domain registrations in the month of September.
